Richie's second squirrel image.

A steadier hand; maybe less excited. The squirrel was also getting used to the situation and sat still long enough to crack open one of the peanuts. Richie did ALL of the photoshop work himself while I cooked supper.

7/31/2010 3:31:00 AMHi Richie,

Made me smile your capture,
I had no success with them.....too fast for me...

The blurred bg highlights the squirrel, but you have to add a bit more sharpness to "him"...

7/28/2010 12:36:58 PMExcept for the left side, the capture is so very nice and so very nicely captured! Sel! Richie must have thought it was good to spend some extra energies...how was the soup, Richie?lol!:-)
RPLYPhotographer7/28/2010 1:37:27 PMRichie has gone home for a few days. He'll read you comments when he gets back. He couldn't decide what to do about that tree - the log had to rest against something - or so he felt. You know, there's not much meat on a squirrel

7/28/2010 12:09:20 PMVery well composed and captured image, an animal portrait really while it is busy getting something to eat. I hope that your grandmother cooked up something good for you for supper as a reward for all your work because this photo stuff makes a person very hungry.
RPLYPhotographer7/28/2010 1:33:33 PMRichie has gone back home for a few days but says to tell you the roast squirrel was delicious.

7/27/2010 11:37:00 PMI agree with the comments regarding the focus.
It's on the trunk instead of the squirrel.
But it's a difficult shot and I think you did it well.
Congrats.

RPLYPhotographer7/28/2010 6:54:02 AMI was aiming at the PEANUT!!!! lol

7/27/2010 7:24:41 PMGreat shot, Richie!!!! I agree with Martas' comments so I will not repeat it. Only one small thing I would like to add.... your focus came to part of the tree, not to the squirrel (unless you did this on purpose) . I understand that you were in a rush....however this is the only one small thing which is not 100% in this beautiful image!!!!! You've done exceptionally great work!!!!!WELL DONE!!!!!!! sel
RPLYPhotographer7/28/2010 6:51:29 AMI was aiming at the peanut lol.
COTom Bell, USA
7/27/2010 6:58:28 PMI didn't feel there was anything unsteady about the "mohawk" image; look at the critter's face and front paws. I like this better, though, because everything important is close to the same plane, hence more uniformly clear, with the BG pleasingly blurred. Well done! Tom
RPLYPhotographer7/28/2010 6:49:20 AMthank you for looking at my new pic the blury bg has somthing to do with aperture thow I have no idea what it does. :) I'm still on basic shooting
RPLYNot Available7/28/2010 3:41:54 PMThe basics of this are relatively simple, Richie, and an important choice in many exposures. The wider the aperture (smaller f/ stop number), the shallower the area of the picture which will be in sharp focus in relation to the object you're focusing on. The narrower the aperture (larger f/ stop number), the deeper the area in focus. Hence the term, "Depth of Field," or DOF. Some photographers say that the neighborhood of f/7 to f/8 is a good compromise when you don't care much about the clarity of your background. Hope that's useful information.

7/27/2010 6:30:36 PMMy congratulations Richie! I love this second Squirrel with the superb blurred background , the beautiful blurred tail , the perfect focus in the trunk and eyes, and the so great cracked peanut and its color!
